What a wonderful winter it’s been. The thing I love the most about winter is that it produces the most amazing conditions with each morning having its own unique signature. One morning its crystal clear and the Red Chilli is slicing its way through glassy waters. The next morning it’s thick as pea soup and you can’t see five metres in front of you. I hope that you enjoy the variety of shots that comprise my ‘Best of July’ photo journal.
A brilliant transformation, the pastel pinks quickly turned into glossy gold’s.
On this day I was fortunate enough to catch a sunset. As much as I love them, I don’t usually have the chance to watch the sun disappear while sitting on the water. I certainly enjoyed this one.
I was treated to a misty morning paddle. The great thing about the fog paddles is how everything takes on a totally different persona. The mood on the water changes, the moisture sits on your face, the visibility is dramatically reduced. Your other senses are alive and images just suddenly appear from know where. The beauty is that you can be guaranteed of super glassy waters as the winds are normally light.
Lake Burley Griffin continues to blow me away. Typically the winds are light in the mornings and begin to increase as the day unfolds. This always produces the most amazing mirror reflections.
Off to Newcastle where I was dodging massive coal tankers and tugs boats that cast a huge one metre bow wave that threw me around like a cork. This is not the best situation to be in especially when its dark. The last thing I want to do is go for and early morning swim in Newcastle Harbour.
This was one on the most vivid sunrises I have seen for a while, it looked like Nobby’s Lighthouse had erupted and molten lava was floating on the surface. Just brilliant!
I was cast into a surreal world of mystique and mystery. The fog increased in density as the morning progressed (which is not usually the case) and the sun trying to burn through the fog blanket was mesmerising. I just sat motionless and drifted away, allowing myself to be totally immersed in this stunning experience.
We had a – 6 degree morning that was an absolute hair raiser. It was well worth the frozen fingers when you get snap shots like these. This particular morning had a beautiful sunrise and the colours were sublime.
This morning transformation was mind blowing! The pastel pink sunrise lit up the morning skies for ages and with each few minutes passing the colours would slowly change and morph into another beautiful scene.
I can’t wait to see what August is going to bring!

Awesome Paul, a truly breathtaking body of photos. You show such a unique perspective of the places you paddle. Thanks so much for giving me such a wondrous visual journey.
Hey Margot,
I consider myself a very lucky person. I have been treated to such wonderful moment in this last month and look forward to seeing many more. Thanks so much for taking the time out to click onto the site. I’m so glad you liked the shots. Thanks.
Fantastic stuff.
You must make a calendar of these at the end of the year. I’d buy 10 just for Christmas presents!
Thanks for boldly going especially at -6C mornings 😉
So glad that you liked the shots Stephen. I have a few calendars idea’s and I will definitely be putting a one (or maybe a few options) together prior to Christmas. The month of July produced some amazing conditions, I’m just lucky enough to be out there floating around. The – 6 mornings are excellent although the last thing you want to do is go for a swim. Thanks for clicking onto the site to have a look and comment. All the best.
Mighty useful. Make no mistake, I apcitpraee it.
I’m going to do just that Stephen. I’ll keep you posted 🙂
