About kayakcameraman

I’m a kayaker who has fallen in love with photography. You'll find me quietly snapping away at the unique seasonal changes that take place around me. I began paddling on the lake as a way to rebuild both my body and mind after enduring an intensive three-month bout of chemotherapy due to testicular cancer. I had never paddled a kayak prior to this and very quickly discovered how stunning it is to be on the water looking out – rather than in. What I love about photography and paddling is that it provides you with best head space. This is why I love my daily paddles, as it gives me peace and contentment along with some of the best natural light shows. Why would you not want to experience it!

Floriade Nightfest 2014*

*Tonight I, along with other members of Human Brochure and the media, was treated to a preview of Floriade’s Nightfest, which begins tomorrow (Wednesday) night and runs until Sunday, 28 September.

It’s hard to put the experience into words – and the photos don’t really do it justice. Here goes:

For those who are wondering – yep, the tulips are out!

We’re first greeted with seas of tulips bathed in changing colours. It’s hard to tell what colour they actually are!

I said sea, right? I meant it.

The flowers are stunning, but Nightfest wouldn’t be Nightfest without doing something pretty damn special. And that’s this.

It’s Alice in Wonderland-esque. Stunning flowers light up in time to the music as we walk through thick fog – genuinely mesmerising. Each enormous flower is slightly different, and the colour show is so varied – after standing there 15 minutes I can’t…

Daily Discovery

24 Sept 2014: Everyday I’m treated to a new discovery. This morning I was drenched in golden mist as I leisurely paddled my way on the Molonglo River. Spring has been truly sensational so far and I am loving every minute of it. I hope you get the chance to enjoy a gorgeous morning in Canberra before the predicted change arrives later in the day.

Never a Dull Moment in CBR

22 Sept 2014: The Questacon, European Union and RAAF balloons lit up our CBR sky in spectacular style this morning.  There is never a dull moment in Canberra during spring. Apart from spectacular sunrises and sunsets there is our annual flower festival Floriade, cycle races and fun runs along with cultural theatre and arts events. The addition of the New Acton restaurant and gallery precinct and the Kingston Foreshore strip are making Canberra a trendy place to visit.

Soothing Sunset

20 Sept 2014: I was bathed in soft subtle light on Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra this afternoon. It began with beautiful blues swirling on the waters surface while the sun shone through the clouds creating an amazing atmosphere. Soon I was being treated to gorgeous golden reflections that lit up the sky and then ‘Mother Nature’ saved the best for last by ending a fantastic spring day with soothing hues.

Friday Treat

12 Sept 2014: Even on a dull and overcast morning there’s never a dull moment on Lake Burley Griffin. We had balloons hovering high in the sky and even at one stage the RAAF balloon was basket dragging on the water’s surface through the middle of the main basin. Then the ever happy dragon boaters came tearing past me (as usual) adding a huge splash of colour to a grey morning. It was a great way to end the working week

9 Sept 2014:  I was treated to a wonderful light show this morning in Canberra. The clouds acted as a natural filter softening the sunlight which cast gorgeous pastel tones to light up the sky. It started off with soft mauves tones and it quickly transformed into a stunning vivid light show.We are treated to many stunning mornings and this one was no exception!

Etched Sunset

6 Sept 2014: Today’s sunset will be etched in my mind for a long time. I am continually awestruck by the beautiful sunsets that we are treated to here in Canberra. They are a constant reminder of how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful city. I’m so grateful to be able to experience and share these magical moments with you.
