Canberra Collection 2014

What a memorable 2014. I’ve continued to be mesmerised by the beauty of Canberra with each and every season offering a spectacle of colour.

I have peacefully paddled amongst soft pastels tones, navigated my way through pea soup fog and have been wowed by our -8 wintery conditions as I glide my way on glassy, often near frozen waters. Each and every sunrise is different and I am continually amazed by this natural beauty especially the golden sunrises which are special to our inland city.

Through my paddling experiences I have been fortunate to meet fellow paddlers, friends and others who have become influential in my life. Our common link is our love for Canberra and all that it offers.

I have found it extremely hard to put a selection of shots together as there have been so many memorable moments this year. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I have enjoyed capturing and sharing them.

I wish everyone a very merry Christmas and I hope that you have an enjoyable festive season. Thank you for your ongoing support and I look forward to seeing and hearing from you in the New Year.

Spellbinding Sunrise

3 Oct 2014: Every sunrise has its own unique signature and this morning’s sunrise definitely took me to another world. It was like I was cast into a dream as the early mist turned to gold and left me spellbound by a stunning sunrise as I drifted my way amongst gorgeous golden mist.

Sunday Slither

14 Sept 2014: An early slither of sun shone through allowing for a momentary glimpse of the sunrise before a heavy band of fog rolled in engulfing the entire lake. Fortunately the fog lifted to reveal a glorious spring day, perfect for outdoor adventures, sporting grand finals and our nationals flower spectacle, Floriade.

A Living Painting

9 Aug 2014: It felt as though I was paddling in a living painting. Mother Nature mesmerised me this morning by beginning the day with gorgeous pastel pinks which slowly transitioned into soft sublime tones. It’s hard to believe that these beautiful conditions would result from subzero temperatures and heavy fog.

Mystique and Beauty

26 July 2014: The scenery was stark but beautiful in its own way. There is something mystical about leafless trees and drooping willow branches as they stand still against the heavy fog and reflect in the perfect glassy conditions. The crowds were thin this morning with only a few fellow paddlers on the water.Every now and then a splash of colour from a buoy would brighten up what was a rather grey morning. The sun tried its hardest to peek through the heavy clouds and a perfect arc of a rainbow ended what was a cold, bleak and rather drab day in the nation’s capital.

Canberra Cloak

2 July 2014: My face was damp, my fingers were fresh and the air was so saturated that it felt like light misty rain was falling. The scenery was surreal, what a great combination! The fog returned to cloak Canberra for the majority of the day but usually once the fog burns off we are be treated to a beautiful winter’s day.
