What a wonderful weekend it has been and I couldn’t have had two totally different mornings. This is why Lake Burley Griffin continues to blow me away, each day it continually serves me up something new. My pocket rocket Canon PowerShot D20 was working overtime!
Saturday morning’s tones were sublime.
What a wonderful winter it’s been. The thing I love the most about winter is that it produces the most amazing conditions with each morning having its own unique signature. One morning its crystal clear and the Red Chilli is slicing its way through glassy waters. The next morning it’s thick as pea soup and you can’t see five metres in front of you. I hope that you enjoy the variety of shots that comprise my ‘Best of July’ photo journal.

28-July 2013: Unbelievable! Vivid reds and vibrant oranges lit up the morning skies to produce one of the best sunrises that I have seen for a while. But it didn’t stop there, then the morning transformed into an amazing light spectrum that constantly wowed me for the entire that I was out there. The glassy waters of Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra were the perfect accompaniment and at times it felt like I was slicing through the clouds. The photos just don’t do it justice and as note, none of my photo’s are digitally enhanced at all, this makes it even more amazing.

27 July 2013: I was totally immersed in another world this morning. That would have to be one of the most amazing experiences I have had for a while. I just drifted away and allowed myself to escape into Mother Nature’s beauty. I consider myself one lucky person.
I could tell from the very start that it was going to be another stunning morning.
19 July 2013: WOW. It looked as though molten lava was spilling from the sky and floating on the waters surface this morning. That sunrise is etched well and truly into my retinas for life. Its been a while since I have taken in a sunrise that was so vivid; it was mind blowing. Newcastle has certainly farewelled me in true style. I hope you enjoy the shots.
18 July 2013: This morning I decided to go for a walk and take in the sunrise from my old stomping grounds rather than go for a paddle and what a fantastic decision that was. It was so nice to just sit back and enjoy a glorious sunrise from my old surfing spots from Newcastle to Nobbys beach. The pre-dawn tones were sublime and the morning transformation was brilliant. My walk this morning brought back so many memories and reminded how important it is to get out there and enjoy the simple things. I hope that you enjoy this mornings shots as much as I enjoyed photographing them, I had such a beautiful trip down memory lane.

16 July 2013: This morning I was dodging Coal Tankers and being cast around by two foot bow waves from passing Tug Boats as I was being treated to a stunning golden lightshow on Newcastle Harbour. I had a beautiful three hour morning session that started from Newcastle Mariner through to Nobby’s Head and back. What a great way to start the day. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed capturing them!

15 July 2013:Wow what a marvellous Monday morning out on LBG.
It may have been a grey and overcast Monday morning with the odd drizzle about, but the water was super glassy. It’s been a while since I have seen the entire lake like a sheet of glass. The calm cloudy conditions made for perfect paddling and great photographic conditions, the soft light was brilliant and the mirror reflections keep me out there for a lot longer than I anticipated. How can you leave the water when it’s just so good!
My good mate….’Charlie Honker’…the protector of the lake.
29 June 2013: The overcast conditions and drizzly rain couldn’t put a dampener on my morning paddle. Instead it created many amazing steel blue reflections as the sun was trying its best to break through the low heavy clouds. It certainly had an alpine feel about it out there this morning.
The rain held off and everything lined up to produce another nice morning out there on the water.
This morning I have selected a few of my favourite shots (33) that showcase how wonderful the past year has been.Today is quite a significant day for me as it is marks 12 months since the Lake View blog commenced with the Canberra Times. No two days are the same, and each day provides me with a natural light show that sometimes leaves me gasping in wonder. What I love about photography and paddling is that it provides me with an incredibly calm headspace.
