Mirror Sunset

10 July 2013: This afternoon I was treated to an afternoon of mirrored waters and a stunning sunset. It so nice to be able to catch a sunset for once and Nina a good friend of mind summed it up perfectly, “Blurred lines between sunrise and sunset. Between morning and night. The start of a new day or the end of a day already lived. They almost look the same. You’ve captured both in this one shot with the whole day hovering somewhere in between. Fantastic!”

My Morning Meditation

8 July 2013: I know that I keep saying  it, but there it truly no better way to start the day. It’s amazing how you become immersed in natures natural light show. It provides me best headspace and I always return back so calm and at peace. I hope you like this morning’s photos.

Simply Stunning

30 June 2013: Simply Stunning is the only way I can descried my experience on Lake Burley Griffin this morning. Everything was perfect from the moment I set out, the misty pre-dawn soft tones developed into a stunning morning. I know I keep saying it, but this was such beautiful transition. I’m not going to caption anything, instead I would like you to enjoy the  photo story that I have put together from this morning’s lovely light show. I’m such a lucky person to be able to experience something so beautiful.

Steely Blue Saturday

29 June 2013: The overcast conditions and drizzly rain couldn’t put a dampener on my morning paddle. Instead it created many amazing steel blue reflections as the sun was trying its best to break through the low heavy clouds. It certainly had an alpine feel about it out there this morning.

The rain held off and everything lined up to produce another nice morning out there on the water.

Floating into Friday

28 June 2013: Marbled skies and calm conditions made for the perfect end to a busy week. At times I had the entire lake to myself so I just floated away care free and enjoyed the reflections. I hope that you have a great weekend and that you like the shots.

Canberra has certainly been in the political spot light this week.

Fav shots from the last 12 Months

This morning I have selected a few of my favourite shots (33) that showcase how wonderful the past year has been.Today is quite a significant day for me as it is marks 12 months since the Lake View blog commenced with the Canberra Times. This morning I have selected a few of my favourite shots that showcase how wonderful the past year has been. No two days are the same, and each day provides me with a natural light show that sometimes leaves me gasping in wonder. What I love about photography and paddling is that it provides me with an incredibly calm headspace.

I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I have enjoyed capturing these moments.

Up up and away

22 June 2013: This morning I had a wonderful experience as I floated high above  Canberra with the team from Balloon Aloft.  Such amazing sights to take in and definitely a view from a different perspective.  We couldn’t have asked for better flying conditions with perfect clear skies, light winds and a crisp minus 5 degrees. The crew and our pilot Richard (such a top bloke) made it an extremely enjoyable experience. They were informative and entertaining which made for good fun. If you haven’t already tried ballooning then make sure you put it on your bucket list and go with Balloon Aloft. I just couldn’t help myself from clicking away as the view was just so beautiful. I hope you enjoy the shots that I have uploaded.

Solace

20 June 2013: Yesterday I had several mental doors open up as I heard news from a friend that their daughter in law, a 33 year old mother of three children has been diagnosed with brain cancer. I am now 20 months cancer free and have three boys myself and I just couldn’t stop thinking about her and her family and what they about to endure. It’s amazing how we can all get stressed about work, become frustrated in peak hour traffic and agitated at being 5 minutes late for footy training. We complain about the smallest things like our morning weetbix is too soggy or the day is too bleak. At the end of the day….does it really matter?

I’m just so lucky to be able to have Lake Burley Griffin on my doorstep which allows me headspace and solitude. For me there is no better way to unwind and unravel the mind. This morning’s smooth waters and calm conditions were exactly what I needed. This is why I love seeing the sun rise and the beginning of a new day. We are all so lucky. Make sure you take the time to hug your partner, your kids, pat your dog or cat and tell those that are important to you that you care and love them. Have a good a day.
