9 September 2013: I love the misty morning starts. The light winds created mirrored waters and the misty conditions created a calm and peaceful atmosphere. The beauty about the foggy starts is that it usually burns off to reveal a stunning day. I hope you get the chance to get outside and enjoy a great spring day.

Misty Wednesday
4 September 2013: The mist rolled through in waves from the wetlands and it created the most amazing atmosphere. If you were anywhere else in the world you would be raving about it for weeks to all of your family and friends. What a wonderful Wednesday morning out on LBG and how lucky are we to have this right on our own door step. I hope you get the chance to enjoy the beautiful spring day that we are going have.
Best of July
What a wonderful winter it’s been. The thing I love the most about winter is that it produces the most amazing conditions with each morning having its own unique signature. One morning its crystal clear and the Red Chilli is slicing its way through glassy waters. The next morning it’s thick as pea soup and you can’t see five metres in front of you. I hope that you enjoy the variety of shots that comprise my ‘Best of July’ photo journal.
A brilliant transformation, the pastel pinks quickly turned into glossy gold’s.
Fog Me!
July 2013: It was like pea soup out there this morning with the visibility getting down to a few metres. Lucky I know my way around or you could find yourself going round in circles. You have to have you wits about you when the conditions are like this, as you have to be extremely aware of the sculls. They row 10 deep from the embankment and move with lighting speed. The last thing you want to do is be T-boned by a scud scull that suddenly appears from the fog.
Fav shots from the last 12 Months
This morning I have selected a few of my favourite shots (33) that showcase how wonderful the past year has been.Today is quite a significant day for me as it is marks 12 months since the Lake View blog commenced with the Canberra Times. This morning I have selected a few of my favourite shots that showcase how wonderful the past year has been. No two days are the same, and each day provides me with a natural light show that sometimes leaves me gasping in wonder. What I love about photography and paddling is that it provides me with an incredibly calm headspace.
I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I have enjoyed capturing these moments.
Surreal and Spooky
9 June 2013: The heavy fog that engulfed Lake Burley Griffin this morning created the perfect setting for a horror film. We set off paddling 45 minutes prior to the scheduled sunrise and at times we were down to 10 metres visibility. I have paddled in a few heavy fogs, but this morning’s just had that strange and eerie feeling about it. The air was heavy with moisture, everything was dead calm, there was no colour and it so silent. It would have made for a great zombie horror film shoot; It was so surreal but at the same time very weird and wonderful. This lake never ceases to amaze me, this is why I love paddling here so much. No two mornings are ever the same.
Wintery Feeling
5 June 2013: LBG certainly had a wintery feel about it this morning. It was clear as bell when I took off at 6.15am from the East Basin, but it wasn’t long before the fog slowly rolled in and engulfed the entire lake. At times it gave the impression that it was going to burn off, but then another bank of fog would roll through the Main Basin creating a totally different feel.
The lake never ceases to amaze me how it can take on a totally different persona each day. This is why I love seeing a new day take place from this perspective, every day has its own unique character.
Into another world
29 May 2013: All the warning signs were there that it was going to feel like you were paddling in another world this morning; at times it even felt like I was paddling in a world of sepia. The heavy blanketing fog certainly gave Lake Burley Griffin a mysterious and eerie presence. I just love starting the day like this!
Fog Mystique and Beauty
25 May 2013: I hope that you enjoy this massive photo story from this mornings foggy paddle on LBG. I just love the mystique and beauty of a thick blanketing fog. I was cocooned by fog that was like pea soup this morning and it created one of the best atmospheres that you could ever ask for. This lake never cease to amaze and astound me, I just love how the fog rolls through in waves. One minute you think that it’s going to clear, only to discover that it thickens even more. Then you have the sun trying its best to burn through the thick mist to reveal a crystal blue sky. This is why I love kayaking and photography, every day is a new adventure!
Surreal Sunrise + Balloons = Unique Canberra Landscape.
May 9, 2013: Dancing mist on the water, balloons hovering overhead and a smooth sunrise was the perfect combination to start the day. The mist rolled in from the wetlands at 5.45am chasing me into the main basin. This gave Lake Burley Griffin a totally different persona and it wasn’t too long before the morning sun burnt through to reveal a beautiful autumn day here in Canberra.
