A Winter Transformation

1 June 2013: Winter started in true style this morning by lighting up the skies with beautiful pastel tones. We began with deep pre-dawn pinks which slowly built in intensity. It seemed as though I had witnessed nature’s palate for pinks, mauves and purples which slowly progressed to a stunning sunrise glow. It wasn’t long before the heavy clouds rolled in from the west quickly extinguishing all colour and soon it felt like I was paddling in a world of black and white. This was one amazing transformation.

Into another world

29 May 2013: All the warning signs were there that it was going to feel like you were paddling in another world this morning; at times it even felt like I was paddling in a world of sepia. The heavy blanketing fog certainly gave Lake Burley Griffin a mysterious and eerie presence. I just love starting the day like this!

Soft start to the week ahead.

27 May 2013: Super soft tones and marble skies certainly eased me into the working week. The calm conditions on Lake Burley Griffin made for mirror like water that cast magic reflections. It was a crispy start Canberra with the temperature dropping below zero, but you soon forget about the cold when you have a wonderful morning transformation like this taking place. I hope that the snap shots ease you into your working week ahead.

Fogtastic

26 May 2013: It was even thicker today than yesterday…unbelievable. The visibility was down to six metres and it was so disorientating. You really have to keep your focus and wits about you especially when to take off an hour before the sunrise and you are paddling in a pea soup fog. The air temp is three degrees and it wont be too long before the water temp nears that as well. But its conditions like this that provide you  one of the best experiences you could ever ask for. Its amazing how quite it is out there, for some reason the heavy fog seems to act like a silencer. The water is like a sheet of glass and you are unable to consolidate true direction, you can choose to hug the shore line but I prefer to disappear into the abyss. The fog was that heavy this morning that you could feel the moisture droplets falling on you face as you paddled forward…..totally bizarre. I hope that you enjoy the shots from this morning foggy paddle.

Fog Mystique and Beauty

25 May 2013: I hope that you enjoy this massive photo story from this mornings foggy paddle on LBG. I just love the mystique and beauty of a thick blanketing fog. I was cocooned by fog that was like pea soup this morning and it created one of the best atmospheres that you could ever ask for. This lake never cease to amaze and astound me, I just love how the fog rolls through in waves. One minute you think that it’s going to clear, only to discover that it thickens even more. Then you have the sun trying its best to burn through the thick mist to reveal a crystal blue sky. This is why I love kayaking and photography, every day is a new adventure!

Wednesday Wow Factor

22 May 2013: WOW, this is a huge photo story today. The title for this morning’s paddle on Lake Burley Griffin definitely has to be WWF, the ”Wednesday WOW Factor”. I know that I keep saying it but what a transformation. The colours this morning were wild and I wasn’t the only one out there to enjoy it. The Australian girls junior sculls rowing team went through their paces on a chilly Canberra morning, the RAAF Balloon was hovering high in the sky and I was lucky enough to be paid a visit by the LBG pelicans. I just love starting my day like this!

At this point I know it is going to be a wonderful start to the day

Cool Cripsy Sunrise

20 May 2013: It certainly had a wintery feel about it this morning with temperature dropping to minus 2. But you soon forget all about the cold when you witness a beautiful light show like the one this morning. I was on the water at 5.45am and watched the another beautiful transformation take place once again. The colour spectrum was sublime and we even went into purple mode there for a while.
This was one very cool sunrise, although I must say that I could be signing off the blog page this morning with the title of “Paul (snappy fingers) Jurak”. I hope that you have a great start to the working week ahead.

Surreal Sunrise + Balloons = Unique Canberra Landscape.

May 9, 2013: Dancing mist on the water, balloons hovering overhead and a smooth sunrise was the perfect combination to start the day. The mist rolled in from the wetlands at 5.45am chasing me into the main basin. This gave Lake Burley Griffin a totally different persona and it wasn’t too long before the morning sun burnt through to reveal a beautiful autumn day here in Canberra.

6.12am: A misty start to day.

TOTALLY IMMERSED

May 8, 2013: What a transformation! It’s one of the best sunrises I have taken in for a while. Simply stunning is one way I could describe my experience out on water this morning.  I found myself totally immersed in an amazing natural light show that was just brilliant. Paddling and photography are opposites but yet they complement each other so much. This is why I love it, because when you are out here you are only looking for the nice in the day and everything else just gets put on hold. Floating away on the water allows me to be plunged into a world of natural beauty where it provides me such peace and contentment; I just love greeting each day like this. I hope that you like the shots as much as I have enjoyed taking them.

Ditto Day

6 May 2013: How good is Canberra? I was severed up another day that was nearly identical to yesterdays and trust me I’m not complaining. I’m amazed at how many serene starts we continually have, the only thing that I am noticing is that we are hitting the sub zero temperatures now and it won’t be long before the water on my hatches begin to freeze again. Then you know it’s cold!
